Smart Border Austria: Zolli Presents Driver App Concept at BMF Information Event in Wolfurt

On October 21, 2026, KikoSpace AG participated in the information event for Smart Border software providers at the Wolfurt customs office. Together with representatives from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) and other software providers, we discussed current experiences and challenges from live operations of Smart Border Austria.

Our contribution focused on a concrete proposal to improve arrival confirmation at the border crossing.

With automatic license plate recognition via cameras, practical situations can arise where a vehicle's arrival is not reliably detected.

Our proposal: a joint driver app solution for Smart Border Austria.

Drivers should be able to confirm their arrival at the border crossing via their smartphone if needed – supported by GPS and geofencing. This way, the driver app could meaningfully complement the existing automatic license plate recognition.

With zolli.ai, we have already developed and deployed such a solution in live operations. Our driver app is available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.

After the event, we prepared our proposal in writing and shared it with the BMF and participating software providers. Our goal is not another isolated solution. We are ready to contribute our experience and technical expertise and work together with other Smart Border software providers to develop an open, reliable, and practice-oriented solution.

We present our proposal and the functionality of the driver app in a video on our YouTube channel.

We thank the Federal Ministry of Finance and all participating software providers for the constructive exchange in Wolfurt.
