What determines the tariff number?
- Material. Hoses made from plastics (polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC) are classified separately from those made of vulcanised rubber. Material is the primary classification criterion.
- Rigidity. Rigid tubes and hoses differ from flexible variants in the tariff structure. This is a core distinction in customs nomenclature.
- Pressure resistance. Flexible hoses rated for high pressures (at least 27.6 MPa) receive a distinct classification from those without such specifications.
- Reinforcement and fittings. Hoses with metal reinforcement, nipples, bends or coupling pieces are classified separately from unreinforced versions without accessories.
Permits & requirements
Depending on the exact classification, permits or requirements may apply to this goods group (issued by authorities such as BLV). Checking with the tool flags possible requirements and the responsible authorities.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the correct HS code for my hose?
Use our free classification tool. Enter the material type (plastic or rubber), rigidity (rigid or flexible) and features (reinforcement, fittings). The tool will determine your 8-digit HS code in seconds.
What happens if I declare the wrong HS code?
Incorrect classification can lead to delays in customs clearance, penalties or back-payment demands. The correct code ensures smooth import processing.
Do I need special permits for my hose?
Hoses containing animal-derived materials (e.g. for sausage production) are subject to veterinary requirements and may require a GGED permit or health certificate. Our tool will flag such cases.

Yes, completely free. You'll get reliable guidance — but formal binding tariff information requires an official ruling from Swiss customs authorities.
